So this is Christmas . . .

. . . at least in Niger:

Today has marked the oddest day for Christmas decorating - for it is +40 degrees outside!! And no sign of a "winter wonderland" outside my window.

In the last few weeks, I have begun to prepare for my first Christmas away from home. I brought a few decorations with me. And last week I bought a soapstone African manger scene - the first of a few I hope to buy in various African countries.

However, this week, I admit to my heart desiring familiarity and the trappings of Christmas. So, today I found myself driving around town to purchase a Christmas tree and decorations. Once I put the tree up in my living room, my house felt like home. An odd feeling, for it feels like my home already, but I suppose for Christmas - even though it is just me in the house - my heart needed more for the homey-Christmas feeling.

I turned on the fans, started the Christmas music and began to decorate my house. Too hot for an apple cider or hot chocolate, but my heart feels like Christmas now.

May God bless you this season as you prepare to celebrate our Saviour's birth. May He bring peace and joy to your hearts.
