RockPointe Team . . . Part 2

During the weekend, we were able to do a few tourist activities with the RockPointe Prayer team to show them a bit of Niger.

Friday evening, after their return from Tillaberi, we headed to the local sand dunes for a picnic and campfire. We arrived just as the sun was setting, so I have no photos of the dunes. However, this is a picture from a teammate of a former visit:

The sand here is so soft and it was such fun to take the sandals off and run all over the dune with the team children and sit at the top and see the beautiful vista of Niger from on high.

We headed back down to a picnic - roasted chicken hotdogs, chips, beans, veggies and cake for dessert. Later in the evening Jenn (a friend from Samaritan's Purse) brought her guitar out and we sat around the campfire and sang praise to our God!

Saturday morning, we headed out early for our 'combo pack day'. We drove out of town to a little campground/activity area and mounted some camels for a tour to a nearby village.

After we toured the village - which is famous for the pottery that is made there - we boarded a pirogue (larger canoe type boat with a motor) to ride back to the campground - hippo hunting on the way! One hippo surface within 5 meters of the boat! We headed to a little island and pulled into the reeds until it moved off.

The sign at the edge of the river where we got on the boat . . . not entirely sure where exactly the parking is supposed to be!

Our guide standing up to look for hippos - and steering the boat with his foot!

We finally arrived back at the campground to a lovely lunch of brochettes (skewered and grilled beef) and fries waiting for us. It was a lovely day!

In the evening, I headed to the International School with my friend Jenn for the senior fundraiser . . . Mexican supper! The food was fantastic and the evening cool and enjoyable. It was a treat to eat food that I love - and the cooks went all out - I had the combo platter of enchilda, taco and burrito. There were chips and salsa to start the evening and cheesecake for dessert!

Stay tuned for the final RockPointe team post later this week . . . our second trip to a Fulani village.
