Culture Exchange

I find it interesting sometimes to take pictures of things I see in Niger that are different from how we would see it in Canada.

Last week, while driving down a major highway just outside the capital city - I saw this car being repaired .... precisely where it broke down!!

Yup .... the car got a flat tire while (before??) pulling out onto this main highway.  So right there - in the middle of the highway is of course where one should stop to fix it!!

And the two lane highway slows down to one lane as we take our turns to pass this vehicle.

My friend Abdoulaye was travelling with me this day.  So of course, my taking a picture of this prompted him to realize that perhaps something was different with this "picture".  So he asked me how we fix flat tires in Canada - do we not just stop where we are and fix them??

No, I replied, we are required to pull over to the side of the road to fix our tire so that we don't endanger ourselves or any other passing vehicle!

In this cultural exchange of information - he found the tire change protocol of Canada interesting, but I think perhaps less interesting than I found the tire change protocol of Niger!!
