. . . Nary a Cloud

The rainy season has begun in Niger, or perhaps just in Niamey. While we have been receiving rain in Niamey, it appears that this has not made it to even the close outlying districts.

Officially, I have heard that even Niamey is not in rainy season as only one rainfall has registered a signifcant accumlulation above 2 inches.

This picture on the right is taken from a Fulani village close to the Burkina Faso border where my team is helping villagers with garden wells. The ground is as dry and cracked as hot season!

I spoke with my friend Adam on Friday and he reported that his father's village - Kongu, 10 km north of Niamey - has hardly any rain. He told me: 'The water has not fallen a lot. There is no greenness for the cows to eat. The cows lack strength/force and will fall down soon.' That being the literal translation of course, but meaning that the cows will soon die from lack of food - the pastures are not growing due to lack of rain.

My night guard lives outside of Niamey - south - and reports the same. Every time that it rains here a lot he returns the next day to say that it hardly rained where he lives. Though he did not indicate his cows will fall over soon, there is little 'greenness' for them to eat as well.

Please pray for rain for the country of Niger, that the country will be blessed with good harvest this year!

Pray as well for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit . . . . as the land of this country is dry and cracked, so are the hearts of those who live here - parched and weary for the Water of Life.

"I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert!"

Isaiah 43:19
